Can You Increase Metabolism

Learn about increasing the metabolism

While there exists many different products out there that claim to be able to increase metabolism, they usually, to put it mildly, stretch the truth a bit in terms of the claims that purport. While several caffeine and green tea based drinks and supplements will boost the metabolism to a small degree, they will not result in any significant weight loss all by themselves. There needs to be an adequate amount of exercise employed in order to truly increase metabolism and metabolic function. Yes, sometimes the most old fashioned method of doing something is often times the best method of doing something.

Aerobic and cardio vascular exercise is the best method to increase metabolism because these types of activities burn a great deal of calories. Since cardio exercises require more oxygen and a greater expenditure of energy, the body needs more energy in order to complete the task or activity than it would to complete a common, everyday activity or an activity of lesser difficulty. For example, walking for 45 minutes burns less calories than running for twenty minutes and, of course, walking for 45 minutes burns more calories and sitting in a chair and watching TV for two hours!

Another thing that is good about cardio work is that it can increase metabolism to where the body is burning calories for several hours after the body has completed the cardio work. If one burns 300 calories running for a half an hour, then the body may burn an additional 150 calories over the
next five hours that it would not have burned if the ‘road work’ had not been done. That’s 450 calories eliminated in day from only a half hour of actual work! Not a bad deal for some who is looking for a way to increase metabolism!
