The Legend of the Slow Metabolism
Find out the facts about the metabolism
process
When it comes to being overweight, many
people who suffer from obesity have a
tendency to lay the blame on a slow
metabolism. While there are ways to increase the speed
and intensity of one’s metabolism, the fact of the matter is
that the concept of a metabolism being inordinately slower than
what would be considered normal is generally a myth.
Yes, there are a few rare instances where
people do actually have a slow metabolism. Sometimes, this can
be tied in with an under active thyroid or some other similar
type disorder. Usually, such a condition is serious and
requires one to be treated by a doctor to correct the
situation. Prescription medicine is employed to help the
thyroid gland return to proper function. But, most people who
try to lay the blame on their obesity with on the problem of a
slow metabolism are either misinformed or confused as to why
they are gaining weight.
Obese people become obese generally because
they have taken in far too many calories than they burn. It is
as simple as that. If their diet is so poor that they are
eating 2,000 extra calories a day than they actually need, then
the problem is not a slow metabolism. There is no way anyone
could have a metabolism that burns up an excess of 2,000
calories without a drastic increase in muscle mass or cardio
vascular exercise. An individual who believes that a body at
rest will burn an insane amount of calories simply does not
understand how the body’s metabolism works or what the
relationship between food intake and calorie expenditure is.
This does not mean that they are not intelligent, just that
they are either misinformed or not properly educated on the
subject and how it relates to a slow metabolism.
